Service, Call Centers Make Florence Connection
Published Dec 02, 2008

With its pro-business climate and ample labor force, it’s no wonder that Florence County is home to so many customer service and back-office operations.
Online job recruitment king Monster has announced plans for a $28 million customer service facility in Florence that will create 350 jobs initially.
“Opening the new customer support service center stems from an initiative to bring North American customer support in-house to ensure Monster leads the online recruitment industry in proactive service,” says Art O’Donnell, executive vice president of service for Monster.
“Florence is an ideal choice for us because it’s a rapidly developing labor market with the talent we’ll need to bring best-in-class service to our customers,” he says.
Zenta, which offers a range of back-office, voice and on-site support services for the financial services, insurance and real estate industries, among others, has unveiled plans for a 35,000-square-foot operations center in Florence that the company says will eventually employ up to 250 people.
Automated Data Processing Inc., a top provider of business outsourcing services, continues to enjoy success in Florence as well.
ADP came to Florence in 2003, acquiring locally based SMS Management Services. Since then, the company has experienced significant growth and currently employs approximately 450 workers who provide pre-employment services such as applicant management, screening and selection, along with tax credit services.
“The biggest reason for our ongoing success is the outstanding labor,” says Jim Brown, senior division vice president and general manager of ADP’s pre-employment services. “There is a lot of talent available here and the work ethic is tremendous.”
Brown also sees local educational institutions and government officials as allies in ADP’s ongoing quest for success. Florence-Darling Technical College and Francis Marion University have been responsive to any need the company has had, he says.
“And the county’s leadership is completely invested in what they can do to assist us,” he says. “They’re very appreciative of business and want to help maintain a strong, business-friendly environment. We have the infrastructure in place to continue to grow, and we’re very optimistic about the future.”
