Sporting Goods Retailer Targets Growth
Published Oct 17, 2007

Irby Sporting Goods moved on down in July – down the street, that is, to a larger building just 200 feet from its old location.

Along with its expanded hunting and fishing sections, Irby’s most significant addition to its 4,500-square-foot space is a 1,200-square-foot, five-lane archery range – the first of its kind in Florence.

The recreational interest in archery has grown in Florence over the past seven years, owner Todd Stewart says. Unlike shooting a rifle, archery can be enjoyed without having to go to the woods or to a range, Stewart says.

“This is something a dad and son, or a daughter, or whoever, can do together at their home,” he says.

Stewart says he is planning an archery league for those interested, as well as offering lessons for amateurs and birthday party packages for children.
