County Mortgage Processor Keeping Busy

New York-based Assurant Inc. planted a corporate seed in Florence a decade ago and has watched it sprout.
Assurant Specialty Property in Florence handles mortgage processing for clients such as Washington Mutual, Cenlar and American Home.
In other words, when a homeowner has a question about a mortgage or mails in a mortgage payment, the company that answers the question or credits the account is Assurant Specialty Property.
It now handles so many customers for mortgage companies that Assurant Specialty Property boasts one of the largest outsourcing facilities in the Pee Dee region.
The Florence operation began in 1996 with 125 employees and one mortgage company as a client. In 2003, as demand for its services grew, the company moved into a new 100,000-square-foot facility in Florence. By July 2005, about 450 people worked there, servicing the customers of four major clients.
Assurant Specialty Property is one of four business segments under Assurant Inc. and has additional offices in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska and Ohio.
